R.D. Olson Completes Residence Inn San Juan Capistrano
February 29, 2012
IRVINE, Calif. – R.D. Olson Construction has completed the Residence Inn by Marriott in San Juan Capistrano at 33711 Camino Capistrano.
The Residence Inn by Marriott was built to reflect the style and culture of San Juan Capistrano, a city rich in history. However, the amenities in each of its 130 guest rooms and suites are very much in keeping with today’s latest, making it a haven for business and pleasure travelers alike.
R.D. Olson Construction is an Irvine-based company known for completing projects on or ahead of schedule. As planned, the company put the finishing touches on this hotel less than a year from when building began, making it possible for the hotel to open in time for spring travel.
The hotel represents the latest generation of the Residence Inn brand, debuting the “Possibilities” suites. The colors, furnishings and space planning differ from previous Residence Inns. Moving away from the use of red, the brown, yellow and teal color scheme now predominates the suites. The couches tout new shapes and desks have been moved to the windows.
“We built the rooms to provide charm and functionality, employing Marriott’s forward-thinking design,” said Robert Olson, CEO/president, R.D. Olson Construction.
As with other generations of Residence Inns, each room has a kitchen, featuring stainless steel appliances and stone countertops.
The lobby too gives an aura of San Juan Capistrano’s character, with its deep, rich hickory wood flooring and dark-stained trusses. R.D. Olson Construction also built a 1,300 square-foot meeting space and 1,000-square foot fitness center that is fully equipped.
Outside the 91,500-square foot hotel are landscaped premises rich in lush native California plants that are interwoven with lit colored concrete walkways throughout. A putting green, fire pit and solar-heated resort-style pool perch on the edge of the bluff in perfect view of the Doheny State Beach. Hotel guests may also enjoy visiting the nearby Dana Point Harbor, a mega soccer complex, local shopping, and the world-renowned San Juan Capistrano Mission.
Awbrey Cook Mcgill Architects, based in San Diego, Calif. provided the architectural design, while Kling/Barta Design, LLC of Shawnee Mission, Kansas designed its interior.
R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979. It has grown into one of the top 50 general contracting firms in California. It is a premier hotel builder, with its signature on such establishments as the 174-room Renaissance ClubSport in Aliso Viejo; AVIA Hotel Long Beach; Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort, Ojai; and four Marriott Residence Inns in Long Beach, Burbank, Oceanside and Irvine. Renovations include the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Los Angeles; Ritz Carlton Spa, Marina del Rey; and Four Seasons Los Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. The company’s most recent completions include renovating the 19-story Hotel Palomar, Westwood; Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove: and Pavilion Hotel, Catalina Island.
