R.D. Olson Construction to Build Morton’s The Steakhouse in San Francisco
January 12, 2009
IRVINE, Calif. – R.D. Olson Construction is set to begin work on expanding San Francisco’s Union Square Morton’s The Steakhouse. Being one of Morton’s better producing locations, R.D. Olson Construction will nearly double the existing square footage from 8,000 to 15,000 so the restaurant can facilitate its large and growing customer base.
The restaurant, which is highlighted by large windows overlooking San Francisco’s famous Union Square, includes a dining room, wine room and its signature lounge–the 1221 Bar. While each of these spaces will increase in size respectively, R.D. Olson also will triple the private dining areas from two to six to cater to large parties.
The restaurant will feature Morton’s newest architectural and design elements, which it rolled out in 2007 in its renovation of its San Jose location. Rich dark red oak wood and a bold green leaf pattern in the carpet replaces Morton’s traditional blue. The two-story restaurant will house the main dining on the entry level. Here, Morton’s original customary lounge will be replaced with The 1221 Bar, featuring a semi-circle counter that jets out into the lounge to encourage conversation, created instant success among patrons at the chain’s other recently renovated locations. Plans also call for a glass-enclosed wine room on this level, allowing customers to view the offerings. The wine room made its debut at the Woodland Hills restaurant, and proved popular among guests.
The basement level will be transformed into five private dining rooms, which may also convert into two larger rooms.
“This is the 11th Morton’s the Steakhouse we have built or renovated,” said Lofton Moore, president, R.D. Olson Construction. “We always take pride in seeing our clients grow and appreciate being part of their success.”
Project costs for the expansion and renovation, which was designed by Chicago-based Aumiller Youngquist, PC, total $3 million.
R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979.
