R.D. Olson Construction Completes Luxury Bowling Lounge

IRVINE, Calif.—In what is becoming a national trend, R.D. Olson Construction has completed Orange County’s first second-story bowling entertainment venue—Strike Tustin.

The facility is located at The District at Tustin Legacy, a 1.1 million-square-foot lifestyle and retail center that sits on the site of the former Tustin Marine base. Anchor tenants include Costco, Target, Lowes and PetSmart.

In its making, the Irvine-based construction company transformed a low-rise building into a fun-packed sophisticated entertainment center featuring a 30-lane glow-in-the-dark bowling alley, large video wall, full-service restaurant, sports bar and arcade--all on the second floor of a 28,000-square-foot structure.

The décor is cutting-edge with wildly designed carpet speckled with reds, oranges and yellows; large globe light fixtures; walnut and Iroko finishes and metal trellises draped in designed fabric above the bowling alley and bar. The project cost totaled $3.25 million.
While R.D. Olson Construction is known for its success in building new concepts in high-end entertainment-and-restaurant-combination venues, Strike Tustin was particularly challenging.

“We had to figure a way to get the bowling pins and machinery to the second level and that was not an easy task,” said Robert Olson, CEO/president, R.D. Olson Construction. “It’s projects like this that test our ability to solve complex issues. Once again, we used our many years of experience in building entertainment venues and our sense of creativeness to easily complete the job.”

Strike Tustin, owned by Strike Holdings LLC of New York City, NY, was designed by CMS Architecture and Design of New York. Strike Holdings’ opening of this location and another in Cupertino, Calif. is the first step of a major expansion that aims to take the company's stylish-bowling-lounge concept nationwide. The firm creates some of the worlds’ most imaginative, exciting and memorable entertainment venues. The company leverages the universal appeal of bowling and infuses a sense of sophistication, whimsy, high style and fun, making Strike Holdings' properties as successful as they are unusual.

Robert Olson founded R.D. Olson Construction in 1979. It has grown into one of the largest general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Marriott Residence Inn, Burbank; Marriott Residence Inn, Oceanside; and more than 300 restaurants nationwide including more than 10 Morton’s the Steakhouses and 20 Benihana-owned establishments. Current California projects under construction include Renaissance ClubSport, Aliso Viejo; and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert
