Leading Hospitality Contractor Begins Third-Phase in Renovation of World-Renowned Hotel

IRVINE, Calif.—R.D. Olson Construction has begun its third phase of a $20 million renovation of the famed Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills.

Twenty years after opening its doors for the first time, Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles is revitalizing nearly the entire property including its guest rooms, bar & lounge, café patio, ballroom and the pool deck.

As R.D. Olson finalized the finishing touches on the newly revitalized ballroom and model bathrooms in August, the firm began work on the hotel’s bar and lounge, and the café patio.

The lounge wall coverings will be updated with new warm and enriching brown casings, with green and cream colored wall fabric, and the current lighting will be replaced with recessed overhead recessed lighting. The ceiling will be painted a metallic green to bring the entire space together.

Deviating from its original subdued style, the bar system will be fully revamped replacing the granite bar top with exotic colored glass, adorned with etchings and sand blasted colors. R.D. Olson will replace the back bar’s closed cabinets with open faced glazed glass shelving that makes for a light airy feel.

In keeping with the new openness of the bar, the current incandescent lighting that illuminates the area will give way to natural light when R.D. Olson renovates the window system. To allow more light to enter the area, the multi paned wood and glass window system will be replaced with single pane glass and glazing.

In previous phases, the Irvine, Calif.-based firm built a model room considered the prototype for renovating the hotel’s 285 guest suites. The concept room includes new lighting at the entry, bath and vanity area and cabling for better access to the Internet and other high-tech amenities. It features upgraded plumbing fixtures, new millwork and shelving, and a vanity, closet and mini-bar as well as new wood flooring at the entry.

Initial phases also included R.D. Olson’s removal of the existing whirlpool, replacing it with outdoor cabanas, and installing a new deck of patterned colored stone that skirts the cabanas and its surrounding area.

“It is always a compliment when we are chosen to remodel such a historically prestigious venue,” said Lofton Moore, president, R.D. Olson Construction. “A large part of our job is to make the renovation seem transparent so guests may continue visiting the hotel and fully enjoy all it has to offer.”

This high-profile project is in keeping with the many other R.D. Olson Construction renovations of historic hotels including the Biltmore Bowl--original home of the academy awards, and the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, which is frequented by many of the world’s most prominent personalities.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded by Robert Olson in 1979. It has grown into one of the largest general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Marriott Residence Inn, Burbank; Marriott Residence Inn, Oceanside; and more than 300 restaurants nationwide including 10 Morton’s the Steakhouses and 20 Benihana-owned establishments.
