R.D. Olson Construction Renovates Famous La Quinta Clubhouse

IRVINE, Calif.—R.D. Olson Construction, a leading resort and hotel builder, has begun renovation of La Quinta Resort & Club’s Stadium Tournament Club--formerly known as PGA West Stadium Clubhouse. Plans also call for a significant expansion and renovation of the outdoor terrace, which overlooks the two 18th holes of the world-renowned La Quinta and PGA West golf courses. Stadium Tournament Club is located at 56-150 PGA Blvd., La Quinta, California.

Work on the 40,000-square-foot clubhouse is part of a major renovation of the entire facility, which was built in 1976.

“It is always a pleasure to work on a project that golfers from all over the world will appreciate,” said Executive Vice President William Wilhelm, R.D. Olson Construction.

The Irvine-based construction firm will delve into the $4.6 million renovation by replacing its current drywall with interior finishes using an array of exotic walnut woods. The flooring will come to life with an interesting mix of wood and natural stone. The walls leading to the exterior will be torn down to make room for the 15,000-square-foot elevated terrace, which will be bordered with an all-glass railing. As a means of transforming the Stadium Tournament Club into an indoor/outdoor experience, R.D. Olson will install removable glass doors—a contemporary design element that will be especially convenient for using the combined areas for large events.

The finishing touches will come when R.D. Olson enhances the exterior landscaping. The construction firm will add artsy contours for the foliage and decorative stamped colored concrete for pedestrian pathways. It will also build a “grab & go” market and revamp the facility’s parking structure, adding the state-of-the-art amenities.

Peterson Architect, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, is credited with the renovation design.

R.D. Olson Construction was founded by Robert Olson in 1979. It has grown into one of the largest general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Marriott Residence Inn, Burbank; Marriott Residence Inn, Oceanside; and more than 300 restaurants nationwide including 10 Morton’s the Steakhouses and 20 Benihana-owned establishments. Current California projects under construction include Marriott Residence Inn, Long Beach; Hampton Inn & Suites, Poway; Fairways at San Antonio Apartments, San Jose; and Morton’s the Steakhouse, Sacramento.
