R.D. Olson Construction Begins First Phase of Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Renovations

 IRVINE, Calif.– R.D. Olson Construction, leaders in building hotels, restaurants and resorts, is making major renovations to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Lobby and Bar. The historic establishment, located at 2025 Avenue of the Stars, was originally built as the Century Plaza Hotel in 1964 on the former back lot of 20th Century Fox Studios. Such personalities as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Elton John, Jay Leno, Jack Benny and Meg Ryan once wandered through the lobby that will soon be graced with a new look.
R.D. Olson, based in Irvine, is providing the pre-construction and general contracting services in renovating the lobby and concierge area in the first phase of construction. During the second phase, R.D. Olson will build a lounge with an adjacent two-sided indoor/outdoor bar. Using the utmost in new contemporary design, the patio features 4,600 square feet of custom slat pavers and ornamental glass wall system.

“It’s a pleasure to revive the hotel’s charm as in its glory days, while introducing contemporary sophistication sure to impress guests for years to come,” said Joseph Kilar, president, R.D. Olson Construction. During the first phase, R.D. Olson will create space to allow for increased indoor storefronts by building a new registration desk on the opposite side of the room from where the current one stands. The registration desk will have rosewood accent panels framed by a walnut border, and complemented by a Cambrian granite top. The lobby’s warm wood veneer panels, curved glass storefronts and cream-colored European limestone flooring will be subtly lit by brushed nickel and white opal glass pendant hanging lights.

Upon completion of both phases, the $4 million project will total 11,000 square feet of new construction. Gensler Architects conceived the space planning, while Design 360 Unlimited developed the interior design elements. Both firms are based in Santa Monica. Completion of the renovated lobby and concierge area for the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel Lobby and Bar is slated for January 2007.
