R.D. Olson Construction Completes High-End Steakhouse

IRVINE, Calif.—R. D. Olson Construction recently has completed work on a new Morton’s the Steakhouse in downtown San Jose, offering sophisticated diners a special meal in a redesigned, contemporary setting. The high-end restaurant, which is R.D. Olson’s 10th Morton’s, is located at 177 Park Avenue, adjacent to the popular Cesar De Chavez Park. The $2 million steakhouse, seating 240 people, is housed in the 8,000 square-foot renovated ground floor of a recycled three-story bank building, which it shares with a law firm. Aumiller Youngquist PC, based in Chicago, is the designer.

“Guests will enjoy the same top-quality food but in a refreshed, modern interior design novel to the Morton’s chain,” said Robert Olson, CEO of R.D. Olson Construction of Irvine.

The new dining room color scheme replaces Morton’s traditional blue with rich dark red oak wood and a bold green leaf pattern in the carpet and alabaster chandeliers. Small parties can choose from tables or quiet booths, while large groups can reserve one of three private boardrooms.

A large open bar lounge replaces Morton’s traditional waiting room, inviting patrons to relax in trendy yet still tasteful comfort. The new bar features a semi-circle counter that jets out into the lounge and facilitates conversation, as well as glass fronted wine lockers and a glass ice bin from which to choose the evening‚s libations. Pendant lamps replace inset lights to create a more intimate ambiance.

Another new feature of the San Jose location is an outdoor patio off the bar that is large enough for five or six tables. Olson said his company has two more Morton’s on the drawing board for Woodland Hills, California and Novi, Michigan.

Robert Olson founded R.D. Olson Construction in 1979. It has since grown into one of the largest general contracting companies in California. The company has built such establishments as Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort, Ojai; Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Glen Ivy Hot Springs & Spa, Corona; Brentwood County Club, Los Angeles and more than 300 restaurants nationwide. Current projects under construction include Renaissance ClubSport, Aliso Viejo; Burbank Residence Inn, Burbank; Union Station Village, Los Angeles; and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert
