R.D. Olson Construction Completes Work on AAA Four Diamond San Diego Hotel

IRVINE, Calif.—R.D. Olson Construction has completed the $1.3 million renovation of the lobby at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. The hotel, owned by Host Marriott, is designated as one of California’s finest with a AAA Four Diamond rating.

The Irvine, Calif., firm, which has extensive experience in construction and renovation of hospitality and resort properties, began the project of the 1,362-room, two-tower hotel overlooking the San Diego bay in early October. Uniquely situated adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter at 333 West Harbor Drive, the hotel draws tourists and business executives alike.

R.D. Olson used its expertise in scheduling and rerouting to accomplish the work while the hotel remained in full operation.
"That's one of the many reasons hoteliers hire us," Joe Kilar, president, R.D. Olson Construction said. "We are careful to make sure business goes on as usual, that our clients can continue to offer top-level service."

The renovation involved updating the hotel’s registration center. R.D. Olson also installed new millwork, cabinetry and stone countertops and painted the entire lobby at the hotel, which features a 446-slip marina.

Architectural design for the project was provided by Houston/Tyner of Marina Del Rey.

Robert Olson founded R.D. Olson Construction in 1979. It has since grown into one of the largest general contracting companies in California. R.D. Olson has built such establishments as Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort, Ojai; Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Brentwood County Club, Los Angeles and more than 300 restaurants nationwide. Most recently, the firm completed construction of the Residence Inn by Marriott in Oceanside—Marriott International’s prototype for the extended-stay market; and Marriott Residence Inn Burbank, featuring an exterior full-building colored light show designed by world-renowned British artist, Peter Fink, as a tribute to the television and film industries. Projects on the boards include Renaissance ClubSport, Aliso Viejo and Hampton Inn & Suites, Poway—both in California.
